One of my most asked questions among my athletes is how they can get more protein in. A common response I have is to tell them to drink a smoothie!
The Recipe
So, here is my own smoothie recipe to make sure I'm getting my protein and replenishing my body daily:
- 16 oz Unsweetened Oat Milk (This is a personal preference as I have some stomach sensitivities to dairy)
- 1 scoop of your favorite protein powder (I use a whey isolate or plant-based protein)
- 1 banana (adds natural sweetness and potassium)
- 1 cup of frozen mixed berries (antioxidants and flavor)
- 1 tablespoon of peanut butter or almond butter (healthy fats)
- 1 handful of spinach (you won't even taste it, but your body will thank you)
- Optional: 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup for extra sweetness
Why It Works
This smoothie packs a solid dose of protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, and micronutrients — making it perfect for post-workout recovery or a quick meal on the go. The combination of protein and carbohydrates helps replenish glycogen stores and supports muscle repair.
